Unit III: Stories About the Berlin Wall
The proliferation in the diversity of modes of representation is connected to the advent of digital technology and the world wide web. The Berlin Wall came down in 1989, just a few years before the introduction of the web, but its visual coverage as a world event is high. This unit uses four examples of narratives about the fall of the Berlin Wall in alternative forms to mere text, relying on multimodality and our various senses. Each alternative form's specific perspective on the fall of the Berlin Wall helps contribute to our historical understanding of this important global event.
